LOCAL HISTORY

Woldingham village is home to 2 churches.  St. Agatha’s, which is one of the smallest churches in the country and only seats 40 people at best, and standing at the entrance of the village, St. Paul’s Church, built in 1933 to accommodate the growing parish.

When Woldingham’s train station began operating in 1884, a wealthy geologist Mr William Gilford recognised the development potential to the area and purchased the entire parish.  The simple road infrastructure he designed, following old field track, is still in use today and his vision of a complete high-class village with large plots continues to serve the village well.
