Welcome to Chaldon

Chaldon is a small parish which lies in the beautiful Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  Situated to the west of Caterham-on-the-hill.  Chaldon enjoys the delights of a semi rural, village location, surrounded by farm land and woodland but with the convenience of having Caterham with it’s excellent amenities close to hand.  It is also ideally situated for easy access to the M23/M25 and the A23 into Croydon.

The popular St Peter and St Paul Church Primary School is located in the heart of the village.  There is also a good choice of both state and private primary and secondary education in Caterham.

THINGS TO DO

Chaldon has 13 miles of public footpaths and bridal ways, so you can walk for miles in the beautiful countryside.  Venturing to White Hill, the highest part of Chaldon, will reward you with breathtaking views across southeast London and beyond. 

Chaldon Village Hall is directly next to the school, built to commemorate the peace following WWI, it is a much valued and well used community amenity with lots of regular activities. 

SHOPS & EATERIES

Chaldon has its own countryside pub, The Harrow, which has a delightful beer garden and serves traditional pub classics.

Neighbouring Caterham would be your next option for a wider selection of excellent restaurants and cafes as well as shops and supermarkets.

HISTORY

Chaldon has maintained many of its fine historic buildings with several properties of Grade II listed status.  The medieval church of St. Peter and St. Paul is dated 727AD and has an outstanding wall painting on the whole of the West wall which is known to be the largest picture of its type in Northern Europe.
