The picturesque and historic village of Warlingham is one of the most desirable residential locations in the Surrey Downs. This quintessential English village is centred on a triangular green with a variety of local shops, excellent restaurants and popular local pubs.
Warlingham has the best of both worlds, surrounded by beautiful countryside but also ideally located for commuters. With fast rail links into London Victoria and London Bridge with regular services from Upper Warlingham and Whyteleafe train stations, both within Zone 6, as well as regular bus services that run through the village into central Croydon and out as far as East Grinstead.
Warlingham is a very popular location for families with its choice of excellent schools. The local primary school, Warlingham Village School, currently has an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating and is located just a few minutes’ walk from The Green. Warlingham Secondary School is a very popular choice with an onsite Sixth Form College. There are also several options for private schools within the area including Warlingham Park School.
THINGS TO DO
Warlingham has retained a real local village atmosphere. Throughout the year there are many popular events held in and around the village including the crowning of the May Queen, the Village Summer Fayre, Remembrance Sunday parade, regular craft fairs, a weekly market in the village hall and the renowned Christmas Lights event which sees a visit from Father Christmas, a lantern parade and the village adorned with thousands of festive lights.
Located in the North Downs, for those who enjoy the outdoor life, there’s direct access to the surrounding countryside, including Blanchmans Farm nature reserve providing plenty of scope for walking, cycling or equestrian pursuits.
There are recreational and leisure facilities aplenty in Warlingham. With a diverse range of well supported sports clubs including cricket, football, rugby, tennis, lawn bowls and squash clubs, plus several gyms and a couple of leisure centres in neighbouring Oxted and Caterham, there is always something to do.
If golf is your thing, then you will be spoilt for choice. With no fewer than 7 courses within 5 miles of the village.
Warlingham also has a vibrant local library and several community halls that host a programme of clubs and groups from the Amateur Dramatics Society to the Warlingham WI.
SHOPS & EATERIES
Flanking the iconic triangular Green is a convenient selection of places to shop, from a Tesco Express, local newsagent, pharmacy to the village jewellers, florists and a hardware store which is always full to the rafters of useful things you never knew you needed! You will also find a choice of hairdressers, beauticians and even a dog groomer for your four-legged friends.
Warlingham has a good sized Sainsbury’s, complete with homeware, clothes and a useful Argos counter. The very popular Knight’s Garden Centre is situated on the borders of Warlingham and Chelsham with its well stocked nursery, pet store and delightful cafe.
For food and drink you really are spoilt for choice. You could opt for a fine dining experience at Chez Vous, a Sunday carvery at the Horseshoe, a curry at India Dining, a quick sandwich at Flavours, fish and chips from the award-winning Captains Table or coal-fired Turkish food at Smoque – to name just a few!
In and around the area there are several historical buildings including the Old Vicarage and The Almshouses both built C.1674. The White Lion has been a pub since 1784 and is still very much recognisable from old drawings and photographs. There is also a variety of churches in the local area with All Saints Church believed to date from the 13th century.
The war memorial is an important historical monument, unveiled in 1921, and is a treasured, focal point of the village.
