HISTORY

The area was developed in the 19th century out of land laying in two ancient manors, Croham and Haling. Interestingly Croydon was the first area outside of central London to adopt the Postcode system.

South Croydon station opened in 1865 with the primary objective of providing additional room for reversing local trains originating from New Croydon station. However, as the local population expanded, the station's significance also increased.
