The day before moving checklist

It’s the day before, so it’s time to get really prepared for moving. You want to get as many of the small jobs completed today, this will enable you to purely concentrate on the main moving day tasks.

We suggest you take final meter readings for all your utilities. You don’t want to end up paying for someone else’s household bills.

Walk around your house for a final check, take your time and make sure you have left nothing behind.

Make sure you have the keys to your new house, or you’ve arranged to collect them and gather the keys for all locks from your old home.

Pack an overnight bag with a toothbrush, sleepwear and other essentials to get you through moving day. Don’t forget the toilet paper! You’ll be able to pack everything else safely away.

As well as personal essentials, put together a mini tool kit and have cash, phone chargers and important telephone numbers easily available.

Ensure your phone is fully charged and have a spare charger at hand, just in case.

Keep valuables and documents with you, if possible. It’s a good idea to keep birth certificates and passports in a handbag. The stress of losing them is not something that you want on moving day.

Empty and defrost the freezer, so it’s ready to transport.

If you have time, you might consider doing an online food shop. Order a big shop to come to the new house a couple of days after you’ve moved in. You’ll be all stocked up with food and won’t need to leave to get shopping, giving you more time to unpack and organise.

We hope these tips will help you be more organised for the big move…

Next week will be our final moving checklist blog post, it’s the big MOVING DAY one!
