National Nature Reserve boosts Croydon property prices

The South London Downs joins Ruislip Park and Richmond Park as the third such reserve. Its 1,030 acres of land will be protected from development, it includes Happy Valley park and Farthing and Coulson Commons.

The City of London and Croydon Council made the decision to create the South London Downs, Natural England will confirm its status in autumn.

“The National Nature Reserve will offer huge recreational potential to the large urban population of Croydon living nearby,” said Colin Buttery, the City’s director of open spaces. “It also provides excellent opportunities for education and research.

The South London Downs combines woodland, grassland and downs. Coulsdon Common has several ponds and the wildlife includes; rare butterflies, rabbits, hedgehogs and dragonflies to name a few.

For anyone looking to move locally, there are plenty other benefits with trains from Coulsdon South taking just over 20 minutes to reach London.

The schools in Coulsdon are high performing generally and the town offers some excellent places to socialize and a local busy high street.
