Making sure you and your home are winter ready.
Winter is nearly upon us, it’s time to dig out the winter wardrobe and wrap up warm. We have the cold, dark nights, and the frosty mornings to deal with.
Here are some tips to help keep you warm, and protect your home from the frost.
Making sure your boiler is working correctly and efficiently. It could save you having to arrange an emergency call out, if the cold weather suddenly hits and your boiler isn’t working. If you find your radiators are colder at the top, it means they have air trapped in them, you should bleed the radiators with a key. If in doubt call a professional. This will ensure your boiler and radiator are running more efficiently.
Check your guttering is totally clear. As the leaves start to fall from the trees, your gutters can become blocked with foliage. Once the blockage becomes too much, water can back up the guttering and cause water damage. Keeping trees cut back from your property, will help to prevent the amount of foliage in your gutters.
Check your home for draughts. Check the edges of your doors and windows, you can use draught strips to cover any you find.
You should check your loft is fully insulated, as a quarter of the heat from your home is lost through the roof. It shouldn’t be too expensive and will save you money in the long run. Also making sure your pipes are correctly insulated with lagging, this should help to prevent your pips from bursting. This is more common in winter, due to the rapid freezing and thawing of the pipes.
We hope our tips help to keep you warm and your home protected this winter.
