How important is getting on the property ladder?
Having children, advancing in your career or getting married – all of us have different goals in life. However, now research shows young people rank getting on the property ladder as more important than any of these.
A study into the attitudes among under 40s, points to a generation approaching middle age who are unsure that they will be able to afford a home of their own.
While more than 80 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds expect to become homeowners eventually, almost half of those in their late 30s who do not already have a property think it is unlikely that they ever will.
Yet when asked to rank five important life milestones – owning a property, getting married, becoming a parent, achieving career aims and achieving educational aims – home ownership outranked the other choices.
