Easy Ways to Refresh your Kitchen

It’s common knowledge that the kitchen is the heart of the home. It’s also a great selling point, so you want to make sure it’s clean and updated before marketing your property. An outdated kitchen can put off buyers and decrease your home’s value. You don’t always need to gut a kitchen completely, there’s lots you can do to give it a simple refresh.

Here’s our low-cost ways to freshen up your kitchen.

Makeover your cabinets. As a major focal point, these should be one of the first things you look at changing. If you don’t want to buy new cabinets, there’s things you can do to modernise their look:

Look to paint the cabinets, although this can be a strenuous job the results are usually excellent, and it’s worth the effort.

You could try removing some cabinet doors and going for the open shelving look. You’ll be able to showcase glasses or decorative dishes.

You can also easily update the handles, or if you love your current ones but would love to change the colour, try a little makeover using paint.

Countertops. Stone countertops really can give off that WOW factor, but they can be a costly update especially if you’re looking to sell the property. If they are out of your price range, there are things you can do with laminate tops.

You could look at natural stone as an option, it’s not an exact copy of stone, however, they look pretty good at a distance and will give your kitchen a fresh, updated look.

Sink and taps. Upgrading your sink and taps can instantly make your kitchen easier on the eyes. Stainless steel sinks are quite normal in newer homes, but they are available in all different materials and finishes, and taps have even more options. You’ll need to keep within the current dimensions of your sink if you’re not looking to replace your countertops, but you should easily be able to add something that works with the current style. These simple changes are surprisingly affordable, especially if you manage the installation yourself.

Treat the walls. Simply giving your kitchen a fresh coat of paint can work wonders. You don’t want a dark and uninviting kitchen as this won’t entice buyers, so lighten it up with a neutral colour.

The splashback. Not only are they functional, but they also allow you to add colour and style to your kitchen. If your splashback isn’t working in your kitchen (or you don’t have one), it’s an easy upgrade to make. Mosaic tiles look great, there are lots of modern styles, and adding or changing a splashback can easily be completed in a few days. If you’re not happy to use grout, consider the peel-and-stick option, these can be added over your existing splashback.

Many homes consider the kitchen a social hub for the family. If you’re selling and your kitchen needs some work, it’s worth spending a little time and money upgrading it. Most potential buyers don’t want to take on home improvement projects when buying a new home.
