About Purley

Purley provides spacious homes in a green environment and is known for the prestigious Webb and Woodcote Estates which offer the best of country and city life in a designated conservation area akin to the garden suburb concept. The Webb Estate consists of approximately 260 acres and was originally laid out by William Webb whose dream was to create an environment offering a unique blend of country and city living. Each road is unique and makes a special contribution to the estate. Planting schemes were drawn up to give each road an individual identity so that each had a season in which it could be seen at its best. This is still evident today in the spring bulbs of Silver Lane, the roses of Rose Walk in summer, the herbaceous arrangement of The South Border in the autumn and Briar Hill in winter. The most distinctive characteristic of the Woodcote Estate is the abundance of mature trees, hedges and large gardens having the appearance of country lanes. The area is being considered as a Local Area of Special Character.

In addition to these two areas, Purley provides an ideal environment for the homeowner, commuter and those wishing to avail themselves of the renowned schools in the locality, both state and private. These include John Fisher, Wilsons, St. David’s, Laleham Lea and Cumnor House. The High Street provides shopping amenities, together with a swimming pool, library, while recreational facilities are in abundance with Purley Sports Club, Dynamics Gym and LA Fitness within the area.

Purley offers excellent railway links including services to East Croydon, London Bridge, Victoria and Gatwick, making it an ideal location for commuters. The train station is within Zone 6.
